Happy New Year! 🎉 If you’re reading this, I want to start by apologising for my radio silence over the last 6 or 7 weeks.
Picture me back in September, tossing my "metaphorical" mortarboard hat in the air after finishing my silver metal clay diploma. I was brimming with excitement, eager to embrace the potential that lay ahead but I launched straight into Christmas preparations, which swept me off my feet faster than you can say "craft fair." Christmas market prep felt like a rollercoaster ride of emotions and deadlines.
Preparing for the Christmas markets was no small feat. I spent over 3 months sculpting, polishing, and perfecting my jewellery as well as working full time in my "day job". Some markets, sadly, did not meet my expectations, leaving me feeling quite deflated.
After a few weeks of reflection and talks with my husband (who patiently endured my jewellery making frenzy), I realised that my journey is not solely about the hustle. It is about growth, learning, and sometimes taking a step back to realign my focus.
The Decision to Focus on Self-Development
So, what’s next? Here’s a pro tip: always have a plan! After some heartfelt discussions with my husband and some reflection, I made a significant decision. I plan to dedicate the next twelve months to my self-development.
I want to consolidate my silver metal clay skills, and revisit some of the projects that I did during my diploma course. I want to take a moment to breathe, experiment, and truly develop my craft.
I am excited to learn about different techniques and attend workshops. For example, I plan to participate in a two-day intensive course on advanced silver clay techniques and do some online training from the many talented silver clay artists out there shared their knowledge. These experiences can be game-changers and will help me connect with other creators while soaking up their wisdom like a shiny silver sponge.
Setting Goals
By taking this time for myself, I hope to recharge and return with fresh ideas and a stronger understanding of my artistic voice. There is something liberating about not rushing into production—kind of like running through a field of wildflowers instead of sprinting through a supermarket aisle.
A New Year, A New Me!
As I begin this new chapter in self-development, the start of the year feels like the perfect opportunity for a reset. I will share updates, highlight my wins (and maybe a few “oops” moments), and provide tips I gather along the way. And I really look forward to having you all alongside me as I progress through this journey
I am still offering my silver clay workshops in my home studio for 1 or 2 people but larger classes are on hold for now. I am hoping to offer some different classes to just my introduction sessions as I have some people returning to me for more lessons.
I am still doing my Makers Market in Whitstable each month. I will be at a new market in Canterbury as well - I have booked for February and March. Watch my social media for more information on these.
I am still selling jewellery at Westgate Galleria in Westgate and I have just popped some stock into a fabulous little shop called The Place To... in Deal, Kent.
Finally my website is still open and I will be spending some time updating this as well so keep an eye on that as well.
If you’ve made it to the end of my musings, thank you. Thank you for your patience and support and let’s make this year one to remember!
Here’s to embracing change and excitedly stepping into the next chapter! Cheers! 🥂
